Description

Mosiacs can be so much work so when the highly portable ZWO AM5 harmonic drive mount and Redcat 71 came out I took the plunge and punched a big hole in my back account.
I also purchased a ASI2600 CMOS  Mono with a set of Antlia 3nm NB and LRGB Pro filters.  I was not disappointed. The ASI AIR Plus running on a phone or tablet does (almost) everything I want.

So here we go ...

One of the first objects I imaged on my new 127is 9 years ago was Antares with its pronounced bow shock, globular clusters and emission and reflection nebulae.
A fantastic area of the sky replete with color but sadly pronounced reflections made what was a treat in my Televue 85 and did not appear on any other refractors I tested, unusable.
There is a very , very long 4 year story associated with those reflections. I would guess in hindsight it was the new fangled ccd chips that ran rings around anti-reflective coatings tuned on film cameras but in the end when AL found out he figured it out too and as they had been sitting on my scope for several months again, ordered Televue to upgrade all my objectives to the very best grade from their stock and return the scope to me. The before and after images certainly pick up on the improvement to raw quality.
I have just learnt to avoid bright stars in the field, espcially if they are blue, and respect the legend that is AL Nagler.

And now at last, after 9 years, I can give it another go. Although temperatures shot up last week I had a run of good nights and got to put everything through its paces and I am delighted.

Exactly what I wanted.

The dominant objects in this field are the globular clusters M4 and NGC 6144 , IC 465 and IC 4603 and the Rho Ophiuchi reflection nebulae.

It is now on my to do list to go from my Bortle 4 sky to a Bortle 2 country sky and a redo the field with a lot more subs.
